Starting an Online business Using Free Business Advice

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

As an online business owner I am regularly asked “What is the best way to optimize a webpage to create traffic generation?” It’s not an easy answer because it depends on who is asking and what their knowledge or experience level is.

When it comes to search engine optimization there is no single method of success. However there are small steps everyone can do and then test the results to see if they are working. Make necessary adjustments when the results are not working and then test again. This may sound a bit hit and miss however it is really very sound advice.

Search engine optimization means making a webpage highly visible as possible to search engines for a given keyword or keyword phrase. Keep in mind that your visitor types in very specific keywords (search phrase) on search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing because they are looking for something very specific.

If you know your most important keyword phrase that is good. If not, use a free keyword tool like Google’s, just type in your search box, Google keyword tool and there it is. Learn to use it because in this business if you don’t you will never get much traffic to your online business.

Now enter in the keyword phrase that you think people are searching for to find your product or service. Then check how much traffic that keyword is getting. Now look to see how much competition that keyword is receiving. Typically short keywords also known as shot tail, are highly targeted and usually have too much competition for one to compete with. This means you are not likely to get on page one of a search. Therefore using long tail keywords might be the answer. The keyword tool may tell you that there is less traffic but also less competition. This is a good place to start your keyword testing.

By placing the keywords you have researched in your heading tags and content within the webpage you are optimizing your site. You can now test your results. I highly recommend setting up a Google Analytics account using your website URL and follow their instructions so you can analyze the incoming data of your website. Then test your results and make adjustments when necessary.

If you decided to take this free business advice and do this SEO yourself it will be very educational. You will be an optimization pro after you do this a few times and will learn the techniques required for traffic generation.

Free Business Advice for Starting an Online Business

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Friday, April 16th, 2010

For those of you that are considering starting an online business, please take a moment for a little free business advice. Whatever your market niche may be the internet can be without question your most powerful marketing resource. With the proper online business software and targeted traffic generation techniques anyone can be successful online. Internet marketing requires a plan, a little work with the proper outsourcing to get results.

Of course one must have an online presence, a website of one form or another. It is also important to develop a link building strategy as a part of your online business plan. By deploying this strategy your online presence is now able to live in hundreds or even thousands of other web pages throughout the entire World Wide Web.

Successful internet marketers use many techniques to get their links out to the world at large. Two of the most common are submitting articles and video traffic. When one submits an article or a video with a one way link to their online business they are in effect advertising and creating targeted traffic. They then use online business software to submit this content to as many social networks as possible. Keep in mind with the business software available today it possible to submit to dozens of sites with just one click. This will result in more unique URL’s with your back-links and in a short amount of time your links live all over the web.

It is also necessary for any successful enterprise to create a customer list. List building using lead capture software should be in every internet marketing plan. Lead capture draws in your targeted audience with good sales copy. Then if your copy is of value to your audience you are able to collect their names and email address. You then have a targeted email list to market your products. Make no mistake, all successful businesses have a customer list and know the value in list building. Lead capture software or a squeeze page is a very effective tool used to collect such a list.

So my free business advice for starting an online business is basically this. Develop a marketing plan. Utilize online business software to create a link building strategy for traffic generation. Outsource when it makes since or when you need results, for example writing or submitting articles. Also use video traffic with one way link strategies and outsource it if necessary. Use lead capture software also known as a squeeze page in your list building campaign. Always build and work your customer list by giving them value.

To Buy or Not to Buy a Business, That is the Question?

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Monday, February 22nd, 2010

If you are keen to become a business owner and yet have no taste for the slog of starting a new venture from scratch; buying an already established concern may seem like a tempting route into the world of business ownership.

It is true that there are many advantages to acquiring an existing business; not least the potential to save a lot of time and effort. It is often viewed as something of a short-cut into business, as someone else has already shed the necessary blood, sweat and tears that are the inevitable cost of launching a new enterprise, but it is important when considering business acquisition as an option, to stop yourself from falling into the trap of seeing it as an easy alternative, for this is far from the truth.

Before even looking for a possible purchase it is essential to find an accountant to advise you of the various issues involved, or, if you are looking to expand by buying a business to add to your existing operations, it is vital that you sit down and consult your own accountant; an accountant’s experience will be invaluable to you throughout the process.

Probably the biggest disadvantage of buying an existing company will be cost; you are of course buying the afore mentioned blood, sweat and tears along with the concept, customer base, brand and ‘goodwill’ associated with the name and not just a set of fixtures and fittings. It is often this very stress and effort spent by the business’s original founders that causes them to be over-optimistic about the market value of their business, to ensure you are paying a fair price there really is no substitute for good research and professional advice.

If your budget does stretch to the greater initial outlay involved, it is important to consider the flip-side of those valuable assets mentioned above: for instance, if the business does have a loyal customer base this may at first appear very beneficial, but customers may associate any goodwill with the previous owners and leave when you take over the business. The ‘brand’ is established yes, but what sort of reputation does it have? A negative image associated with a particular name could end-up costing more time to fix than starting a completely new venture.

Cynicism in business is often a valuable tool; it is probably a good idea to ask yourself why any particular business is for sale: hidden debts or underlying problems may have given the owners a need to offload and this will not necessarily be reflected in the cost; even business owners passing-on a dud may have an over-optimistic view of their business’ value. With this in mind there are probably a few things it is worth investigating: check carefully any profit trends and projections to confirm that the business is moving in the right direction; there should be forecasts available; Check the operations of the business, including sales, costs and assets. It is when reviewing the financial records that you’ll most need an accountant to step in, good accountants will offer a ‘due diligence’ service to thoroughly vet the financial health of your potential purchase.

If it is an existing business that you have decided will work best for you it is important to remember that unlike a brand new venture, which is something that can grow from your own vision, a going concern already has many people’s lives caught up in it; even after the business founders have handed over the keys and stepped aside, and the faithful customers have made a decision to either give you a try or vote with their feet, you will often still have others, not least any existing staff to whom you bare not only a moral responsibility, but also a statutory obligation with regard to their employment.

In short although there is often less personal stress involved in buying an established company, there is usually also less flexibly when you are inheriting someone else’s dream. You need to be very honest with yourself about whether you are happy to adapt what is already there and work within the existing framework.
Buying a going concern is a lot like buying a second hand car or an old house, and just like buying a second hand car or a house, the need for care and due diligence cannot be over estimated.

Choosing the Right Business Accountant For Your Online Business

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Choosing the right accountant for your online business should be at the very foundation of your business set-up; get it right and the relationship you have with your accountant will be one of the longest business relationships you’ll ever enjoy; get it wrong and you could be left feeling bitter and disenchanted with the whole profession.

Many people swear by recommendations from friends, family or business contacts and indeed this is still a vital source of new fees for many accountants; the problem with this is that accountants are not a ‘one size fits all’ type of profession, and so Uncle Peter’s perfect accountant is not necessarily going to work well for you; it is important therefore to do a bit of ground work, make a checklist, ask questions, explore your options, and choose a practice that is right for your business.
