Read All About It! The Importance of Website Newsletters in Business

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Competition for the hearts, minds and cold, hard cash of the buying public has never been fiercer than today; thousands of small businesses all desperately trying to get the attention of the same limited customer base does not bode well for easy business. It has never been more important to make your business that little bit different, to stand out from the crowd and get yourself noticed. Your business has an important message to impart, it is “look at us, we are better than our main competitors!” and so it is vital to use every tool available to you to get that message across.

For most small businesses the problem is amplified by having less of everything to play with than the bigger boys and yet the need to distinguish yourself from the rest is often even more pressing.

A website is a must of course and we are fortunate to live in an age when the internet can in many ways provide cheap and sometimes free methods of marketing that can, while keeping budgets small, give your business some very slick and potent means of promotion.

Once you have your website up and running, it is important not only to have people visit in their droves, but that those who do are the right people and that they stick around once they arrive. You also want these sought after visitors to return and bring their friends. It is one thing to have a successful, well placed website and quite another to have a site that might as well be made of rubber with visitors bouncing out almost before they’ve read your company name.

So how to attract the right sorts and keep them hanging around long enough to allow the search engines to register how well your site is working, not to mention getting them to stay long enough to learn about your wonderful product and place huge orders.

The simple truth is that the most exciting site in the world will become dull to visitors pretty quickly if it doesn’t ever change. The best way to be exciting and inviting is to keep up-dating your content, when your site provides something for people to come back for they usually will.

An easy and practical way to provide continually up-dating content on your business website is to offer a newsletter; having a regular business newsletter obviously provides the added marketing benefit of giving your business a platform to talk endlessly about itself, your products and even your favourite customers.

By getting your customer base involved you create a community around your business, which is more likely to foster loyalty from customers; loyal customers are a great source of free marketing as they will happily and often evangelically promote what they see as their personal product.

Having a newsletter which invites comment from visitors is also a great way of gathering customer feedback which will prove invaluable in the development of your business.

If a newsletter is starting to sound like an ideal way for you to improve your small business website do remember one thing, once you start, you must continue updating and regularly; a business newsletter is a serious commitment and a newsletter that stops almost as soon as it’s started can do more damage than never having had one in the first place. Good luck.

Your Business And Building an Opt-in List

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

The most important tool for any business (online or offline) is an effective marketing strategy; without this, and therefore without sustained income, no business can survive. The internet is particularly suited to marketing due to the enormous reach available; nevertheless, a solid online marketing strategy is required if true success is to be achieved.

An effective online marketing strategy need not be overly complicated and one of the best ways to achieve such a strategy is to build an opt-in mailing list. A common phrase in online marketing is ‘the money is in the list’ and this is certainly true for all but the most specialized online marketers. Why is this? Well, an opt-in list allows you to communicate with potential customers (your opt-ins) to promote your business.

An opt-in list is essentially a list of email addresses of people who have subscribed to receive further information from you, usually by inserting their contact details in a website opt-in form and subsequently confirming their desire to subscribe. Since, opting-in is an option and completely up to the website visitor, their confirmation of subscription enables you to avoid being accused of sending spam email.

Creating an opt-in list can be very beneficial to your business, since you are able to continuously send newsletters and emails promoting the products and services that your business offers. The following list summarizes the advantages of having an opt-in list associated with your business:

1. A mailing list will be your most important business assett

Most, if not all, successful online marketers will identify their mailing list as their most important business assett. The list allows the marketer to promote products and services in a controlled manner to a targeted audience.

2. A mailing list is always current

Your mailing list will never become redundant – as long as your subscribers need a solution to a problem then you are able to promote such solutions (products and services) through your mailing list.

3. The larger you list, the larger your profits

Clearly, the larger the list of subscribers you have on your list, the larger the number of potential customers you have as your mailing audience. As long as you are providing products and services that your subscribers need, then it follows that the larger your list, the larger your income and profit.

It can be seen from the above that an opt-in mailing list can easily become the heart of and most important element of an online business and can be the key to the survival of that business.

The Highly-targeted Opt-in List And Why You Need To Build One

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

It seems that many people, when asked the question ‘do you think you are successful with your online business?, will not reply with a straight answer, and for good reason; it would appear that these people believe that merely having an online presence, such as a website, is good enough to claim success!

Unfortunately, simply having a website is no guarantee of internet marketing success since, unless you take further positive action, then it is unlikely that potential customers will even be aware that your website exists.
The key factor to online marketing success is getting your business noticed.

A good way of attracting notice is to build what is know as an opt-in list, mailing list or, simply, a ‘list’. It is likely that the truly successful internet marketers will confirm that having a highly targeted opt-in list is the most important weapon in their IM armory.

Essentially, an opt-in, or mailing, list is a compilation of email addresses of people who have agreed (by opting-in) to obtain any kind of relevant information from online businesses like yours. Since these people have confirmed their opt-in, you have their explicit permission to send to them whatever newsletters, brochures, or promotions that are relevant to your online business. Receiving this explicit permission is important since, without it, and mailings could (and probably would) be considered as spam and therefore illegal

Building such a list of potential customers is reasonably straightforward and the exposure the list gives your business means that it should become your most valuable internet marketing resource. You will be able to maintain contact with previous buyers as well as promoting products to potential customers also on your list.

The following points will enable the newcomer to start and develop a list in the most effective manner:.

1. Select a niche market / target market.

It is important that, before starting list building, you select a niche or target market to develop your list around. This way any promotions that you mail to your list will be relevant to the people on that list.

2. Verify niche / target market is available online.

This may seem obvious but before settling on your niche / target market, it is essential that you verify that the market exists online since the nature of list building is peculiar to the internet.

3. Verify niche / target market is commercially viable.

A highly targeted list will, of course, be wasted if there is not serious income generating potential associated with your chosen market. You can verify the commercial viability of the market by carrying out checks on the search engines using your chosen keywords.

4. Investigate the common problems of your target market and generate solutions.

This can be typically carried out on forums associated with your market. By identifying common problems raised by your target audience you can provide solutions for people to use thus establishing yourself as an expert and giving your business increased exposure.

So the success of an online business can largely be determined by the size and quality of a highly targeted opt-in list. The list provides the marketer with, essentially, a life-long resource for promoting products and generating additional income online.
