Secrets to Domain Names when Starting an Online Business

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

When starting an online business choosing the best possible domain name is extremely important. The reason it’s so important is name recognition associated with keywords is how you generate traffic to your website. Therefore why not start at the beginning with your domain name.
Before anyone buys a domain name and launches an internet business they need to take the time to learn keyword research. If you have no idea where to start here is a great place (free) to begin, type Google keyword tool in your search engine. Near the top of your search you will see Google keyword tools. When you open the site, before you do anything else, click on learn more and take the time to learn keyword research step by step until you completely understand it.
It would be ideal if you could afford to outsource this work to a competent SEO (search engine optimization) company. However for the majority of us starting a business this is very unlikely and we simply have to learn SEO marketing to complete online with traffic generation.
Keywords are how people find what they are looking for on the net. We simply type in a keyword phrase and start surfing. The trick to keywords is to find relevant words relating to content that have a good amount of traffic with the least amount of competition. Typically a short tail keyword will have way too much competition, therefore you are never likely to rank even close to page one. However, long tail keywords with the proper research can easily get you on page one of an internet search.
That said, when it comes to domain names long tail or long names are not practical or desired. Therefore a relevant short keyword (providing it is available) is more effective even though you are not likely to rank very high in a search result. The idea here is to have a good name associated or relevant to the business you are providing that people like or can remember. If the keyword or words are relevant than in time along with on page and off page SEO your site will rank very well.
With a good reasonably short and relevant keyword domain name you have an excellent start to launching an internet business. With your ability now to do good keyword research you can start creating relevant keyword content, heading tags, internal linking and anchor text links to your website. With this on page SEO you are likely to start ranking very high in the search results and generate traffic to your online business. After all without traffic to your website you have little chance making money online.
I highly recommend taking the time to learn good keyword research and implement SEO marketing if you want a successful online business. We have more, a lot more free information about SEO marketing and how to market online on our website for anyone that is interested. Keep in mind in order to be successful online you must learn marketing skills and implement what you learn.

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Friday, May 7th, 2010

Search Engine Optimization, SEO is without question one of the most important tools in starting an online business. Using relevant keywords in your heading tags along with inserting anchor text links as an internal linking structure you are optimizing your website for better search results (SERPs). I think we all understand the value in a page one ranking of an internet search that cost you nothing.

The real trick of the trade comes with educating yourself in online marketing strategies. Keyword research is one area that cannot be over looked or misunderstood to be successful online. I am not going into detail here about how to do Keyword research, just that you understand the value of it.

When a relevant keyword phrase is used in your heading tag for each of your website pages you are beginning to optimize your site. Then by creating relevant keyword rich content and adding internal linking structure, search engines see this and the ranking begins. How you rank in (SERPs) the result depends largely on the amount of quality content you provide. It is not unusual for successful online business to create content a continual basis via article, videos etc…

Keep in mind the importance of anchor text links within your website, article and videos. These are like a road sign pointing to your content. When it comes to search engines the more content you expose and point to the better. I also recommend linking within your website first, after all where else is your content more relevant!

For anyone starting an online business or for those that need more free traffic to their website I highly recommend taking the time to educate yourself in internet marketing strategies. It will save you countless hours and a ton of cash. Learning how to market is more valuable than the product itself when it come to making money online.

The Power of Heading Tags and Internal Linking

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

When it comes to SEO (search engine optimization) and your website the proper keywords in your heading tags will make a significant difference in your page ranking. Then when you combine internal linking to relevant content within you site using anchor text links your site becomes a search engine magnet.

Consider, on page SEO before jumping into off page SEO.  How can anything be more relevant than your own pages in which you have complete control? This unfortunately is all too often over looked by many internet marketers. Understanding how to use search engine optimization can be a challenge but it is not rock science. Start with optimizing your website from within, page by page link to link.

Keyword research is critically important. First the keyword phrase needs to be searchable, would you use it? Then how much competition does it have? Can you compete with that many or can you find a searchable phrase that has less competition? Then does the phrase have paying customers as you normally see on the right hand side of the search page. Normally if it has paying customers it means the search term makes money. This is a good thing as long as you can compete with the overall search results for that keyword phrase.

How does one compete with others in a keyword search? Content, relevant content is what search engines live for. The more relevant content you produce and link to the higher your ranking in a search result.  I cannot express enough how important high volumes of content are to a web based business. As they say content is king and it truly is.

By inserting relevant keywords in your heading tags and then creating an internal linking structure using anchor text links to all your content you will be well on your way to a SEO friendly website. In time you are likely to find yourself on page one of a Google search.

Please keep in mind that SEO and the internet in general is an ever changing space.  Market strategy is vital in order to compete. If you are interested in learning more about SEO and online marketing we have a lot of free information available on our website.

You Can Give Your Keywords Link Juice From Internal Links

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Thursday, March 11th, 2010

What is Link Juice?

Some call it Link Juice, others call it Link Love but it is just a fun way of referring to the SEO benefits of linking two web pages together. Whether the links are within the same domain or from external sources, there are always benefits from an SEO standpoint when you create a link to anything.

It is sometimes tougher to get off-page links, or links on other websites, so it is to your utmost advantage to do everything you can within your own website to boost the power of your keywords. Internal linking is one way to do this. Because you control what is on your webpages, you control the amount of on-page SEO you do. To neglect this important aspect of SEO may mean that you do not rank as highly in the Search engines for your keywords as you would like.

How to Use Internal Links To The Best Advantage

To get the most SEO punch from your internal links you should use anchor text links within the context of your blog or website content any time your keyword is used. Let’s use gardening as an example. You have a gardening website and you have a product about container gardening that will make you money when anyone purchases it. Naturally, you would want to rank higher for the keyword “container gardening” since that is the product that will put money in your bank.

You want the search engines to recognize that the container gardening offer page is the most important page on your website. So you write a series of 20 articles about gardening and within those articles, you place an anchor text link to the money page every time you use the word container gardening within those articles. The search engine will then pick up the fact that there are 20 links within your site all leading to that page and will know that it is the most important page of your website and rank your website higher in the SERP for that keyword.

Choose one or two keywords that you want to rank highly for and use the internal links to tell the search engines what you want and they will respond. The biggest mistake a marketer can make is not guiding the search engines where YOU want them to go.

Page Speed and Google…What’s The Deal?

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I am sure you have heard that your website speed can make or break your website as far as search engine positioning goes in the new Google algorithm changes.  The truth of the matter is that it is not quite as big a factor as everyone thinks.

Yes, it is always a good idea to make your page load quickly. I am sure you have come across sites that take forever to load and most often you end up leaving before the page fully loads out of sheer frustration. It is for that very reason that Google has come to look at page speed as a small factor in where to place your site in the SERP.

Google is all about improving the visitor’s experience. They know that a fast site, that is easily navigated, will make happier customers BUT that does not mean that the top positions in any search string will be super fast sites. They only take the speed of your site into consideration if two sites are vying for the same position.

Let me explain; suppose you are trying to rank for the keyword phrase “Wart removal”. You have done all of the on-page SEO and you have built back links, etc. There are 2 other sites who have done exactly the same. Google will then look at the page speed and place the fastest of the 3 in the top position.

So you see, there is more to getting to the top than just page speed, but it is page speed that will help you beat out your competition for the highest placement. So, although it is not critical, it is definitely something you want to be aware of and you want to see where you stand in comparison to your competition.

To do this, you should visit http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/ and download the FireFox Page Speed plugin. This  is a great tool you can use to check on your page load time and compare your site against everyone else’s in your niche. If you find that your page loads 50% slower than the competition, you will likely want to correct that. They will even give you suggestions on how you can speed up your site.

This is not only good for your SERP, it is good for your visitors and good for saving on bandwidth. A well optimized site is a joy to surf through and will create more loyal followers.
