Do you feel guilty about putting your name to someone else’s work? I am not talking plagiarism here but you hiring someone for example, to write something for you, build you a blog or build back links to your website. Some how you feel guilty that even though you legally own this stuff you can not use it and claim it as your own.

So doing everything yourself is maybe commendable in other areas of your life but is a terrible goal to have in business because leverage is the key to business success. Get over it! To succeed in any business, online or offline, you need to find people who have the skills that you do not have yourself and outsource your work to them.

1. Building an Online Business is Lonely.

If you decide to do everything yourself you will find that you spend up to 20 hours per day isolated from the world with no one to share your success or worse still no one to motivate you when things are not going so well for you. Result is that you have good days where you can motivate yourself and miserable days where you have very little chance of motivating yourself.

Therefore you need a person who you can reach out to and share your business success and failures.

Basically if you do not have colleagues that understand what you are doing you are going to end up sitting at your desk for hours every day and you are going to be miserable. Hiding yourself away for hours on end can also sacrifice your relationships with your friends and family.

If you do not build relationships with people that understand what you are building, you are just setting yourself up for failure.

2. Do Not Try To Do Everything Yourself.

As mentioned above if you want to build a successful marketing business you need to leverage your time and get other people to do things for you so that you can free up your time for the more important things in your life.

Unfortunately a lot of people want to learn and do everything themselves so what they end up with a job that is time prohibitive, cost prohibitive and may not turn out as good as they expected. I am not saying that you should not keep learning.

For me personally, I learn better through doing. So I tend to learn the basics on how to do things and then I know how to instruct others on how to do things for me.

The key to fast growth in your business is to find people with different skill sets than you so that you can learn from them.

3. Accountability.

If you are not accountable to someone for your daily actions it is far too easy not to do them. You need to find a person, an accountability partner, who you can email your daily goals. You do not have to like them or have them reply to your emails as just the power of commitment will help you achieve your daily goals. Some people find that just listing their daily goals on 43things.com helps them achieve them.

Give it a try. Just make a list of 4 things that you can accomplish today and post it to 43things.com or email it to someone you know.

Small business is all about change. If you refuse to change and move with the times and the current business practices of those times, then you are almost destined to fail. In order to succeed in business you need to be constantly updating your products, services, logos, advertising, and website. If you look at any successful business which has passed the test of time you will see that they are constantly evolving to meet the new challenges that they are faced with. With the world now being in the digital age, one of the most important things to keep updated is your website.

The importance of updating your small business website can be measured by the amount of online traffic that you are getting. If you do not have any way to monitor this traffic then you are definitely behind the times and you need to update your site, and any associated analytical tools, as soon as possible. Keeping your website updated will ensure that you can get paid traffic as well as organic traffic coming to your site. When it comes to keeping your site fresh there are few different things that you can look into.

The first thing you will want to update is the overall look of your site. If you have an older site that looks like a plain blog, then it is time to revamp it. There is no doubt that the internet has become the best friend of the small business, with its wealth of easily accessible information and the availability of otherwise difficult to source individuals and products. There are very many ways for the modern business to utilize the web to good effect, a perfect example being the business blog.

People like to get involved and it is natural to want to communicate, so open-up the streams of communication by actively encouraging comment, far too many businesses are so scared of the potential for negative criticism that they prevent contact from customers instead of welcoming it as they should; inviting customer interaction will provide you with valuable feedback and help with your business analysis, it also gives you a direct link to the people you want to sell to, business gold.

Using Popup Scripts Is Risky Business

The trend lately for so called “gurus” and “experienced” internet marketers to sell scripts that create popup ads or chat boxes or list building scripts is, in my mind, unscrupulous business practices. Here are some real hard truths about those types of scripts.

  1. Google HATES them. They have labeled pop up scripts “bad ware”. Any website using these scripts will most likely be de-indexed or driven so far down the SERPs they will never see the light of day.
  2. If you are thinking of placing these types of scripts on your Clickbank affiliate pages, think again. Google will automatically give any site with a pop up the lowest quality score possible in Adwords. So forget having any affiliate marketer do a PPC campaign for your product.
  3. Pop ups are annoying! They do more to hurt your relationship with your potential customer than to increase trust, which should always be your main goal. Personally, I will NEVER buy from anyone using this type of “in your face” strategies.
  4. Any marketer creating or selling these scripts as the “next best thing” does not have your best interest in mind. All they want is your money, which is why they create these in the first place. Also, what better way to eliminate your competition than to sell them a product that is sure to get their website either de-indexed or driven down the SERPs? They are win-win products for the experienced marketer who cares little about the people they are trying to “help”.

Save your money. If your sales copy is so bad that you cannot convert with it, then invest your time and money in getting better at it or create a video that will do that for you. Do not keep spending money on useless scripts that hurt your business!

The definition of blogging is something that is very much in flux, as the new technologies that appear every day redefine what a blog is, what a blog can be, and what a blog should do. For many years, blogs were defined as text-based websites that kept records of days, similar to a captain’s log on a sailing ship. However, this started to change as the group of people who kept blogs became more diverse. The more bloggers began to explore the limits of the medium and of the technology that made it possible, the more the boundaries of what could be called a “blog” expanded.

Today, there are an abundance of photo blogs, and there are even video blogs as well. Mobile blogging devices may well change the definition of blogging entirely by making it possible for bloggers to create new kinds of posts. Another element of the blogosphere that is starting to redefine blogging is the corporate blog. As more companies hire writers to keep blogs with the sole purpose of creating positive buzz about their brand, bloggers across the globe are arguing about whether these manufactured blogs are really worthy of the name. Between all of these different forces that are constantly expanding and reshaping the blogosphere, it is difficult to imagine that the definition of what is and is not a blog will ever remain fixed for very long.

Choosing a free blogging site can feel overwhelming because there are so many options. There are several large free blog-hosting sites that dominate the blogosphere, but there are also smaller sites. Whether you decide to join up with an established site like blogger or whether you choose to sign on with a relatively new venture depends on what your priorities are.

Reliability is perhaps the best reason to opt for a large and well known free blogging site. When you choose to have an established brand host your blog, you can feel secure that your blog will not crash often and will not disappear in the middle of the night. Because the program that you use to blog with is such a powerful part of your blogging experience, it is well worth putting in the time to find a platform that provides your ideal balance between a user-friendly interface and a flexible framework that allows you to make your blog look and feel unique. Finding the right platform isn’t always easy, but with a little bit of contemplation and a little bit of research, you will be on your way to finding the perfect blogging platform.

Deciding what your priorities are in terms of ease of use versus customization. Most highly customizable blogging platforms, like moveable type, are a bit more difficult to use than very automated platforms like wordpress. However, the fact that no two bloggers need the same thing from a blogging platform can make your search for the right platform a bit tricky. When you are reading reviews of different platforms, try to keep your priorities in mind and do your best to take into account the position that the reviewer is coming from. For example, a negative review written by an accomplished software designer who complains that a popular platform is too limited may tell you that the platform in question is ideal for a beginning blogger. There is no such thing as the perfect platform for everybody, so instead of looking for the “best” platform, look for the best platform for your specific criteria.

If You are Already Blogging, Money May be Just a Click Away

If you already spend a fair amount of time blogging, money may come to you literally as soon as you ask for it. Once you have an established blog with a regular readership, it is easy to turn a profit through advertising. By hosting sponsored links or banners, you can see income from your hobby almost overnight. Even if you did not start your blog intending to turn a profit, making supplementary income from your blog may be easier than you think.

Of course, even for people who have spent months or years blogging, money from advertising revenue may not add up to a large sum. The amount of money that you can make as a blogger depends on a lot of different factors, but perhaps the most important element of the equation is the topic of your blog. If your blog is on a subject that appeals to a demographic that advertisers
have a strong desire to reach, you will be more likely to be able to turn a large profit on your blog than if your blog is on a fairly obscure subject that does not draw the kind of audience that advertisers need to appeal to. Of course, the only way to find out where you fall on this spectrum is to try hosting some ads. If you are already blogging, you have nothing to lose.
