The Highly-targeted Opt-in List And Why You Need To Build One

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

It seems that many people, when asked the question ‘do you think you are successful with your online business?, will not reply with a straight answer, and for good reason; it would appear that these people believe that merely having an online presence, such as a website, is good enough to claim success!

Unfortunately, simply having a website is no guarantee of internet marketing success since, unless you take further positive action, then it is unlikely that potential customers will even be aware that your website exists.
The key factor to online marketing success is getting your business noticed.

A good way of attracting notice is to build what is know as an opt-in list, mailing list or, simply, a ‘list’. It is likely that the truly successful internet marketers will confirm that having a highly targeted opt-in list is the most important weapon in their IM armory.

Essentially, an opt-in, or mailing, list is a compilation of email addresses of people who have agreed (by opting-in) to obtain any kind of relevant information from online businesses like yours. Since these people have confirmed their opt-in, you have their explicit permission to send to them whatever newsletters, brochures, or promotions that are relevant to your online business. Receiving this explicit permission is important since, without it, and mailings could (and probably would) be considered as spam and therefore illegal

Building such a list of potential customers is reasonably straightforward and the exposure the list gives your business means that it should become your most valuable internet marketing resource. You will be able to maintain contact with previous buyers as well as promoting products to potential customers also on your list.

The following points will enable the newcomer to start and develop a list in the most effective manner:.

1. Select a niche market / target market.

It is important that, before starting list building, you select a niche or target market to develop your list around. This way any promotions that you mail to your list will be relevant to the people on that list.

2. Verify niche / target market is available online.

This may seem obvious but before settling on your niche / target market, it is essential that you verify that the market exists online since the nature of list building is peculiar to the internet.

3. Verify niche / target market is commercially viable.

A highly targeted list will, of course, be wasted if there is not serious income generating potential associated with your chosen market. You can verify the commercial viability of the market by carrying out checks on the search engines using your chosen keywords.

4. Investigate the common problems of your target market and generate solutions.

This can be typically carried out on forums associated with your market. By identifying common problems raised by your target audience you can provide solutions for people to use thus establishing yourself as an expert and giving your business increased exposure.

So the success of an online business can largely be determined by the size and quality of a highly targeted opt-in list. The list provides the marketer with, essentially, a life-long resource for promoting products and generating additional income online.

Lead Capture- Are You a Business Owner or Just A Salesperson?

By Chad Carlton · Comments (0) · Saturday, February 20th, 2010

List Building is The Foundation of Your Business

Any good business owner knows that building a client or customer list is the number one priority for a sustainable business. Without a way to stay in touch with your existing or potential customers, you cannot provide ongoing service or generate future sales to the same customers.

Whenever I run into anyone who makes an income online, and they say, “I make X-number of sales per month and I don’t even have a list”, I say, “You are a great salesperson, why would you not want to have your own business?” They always seem puzzled by this.

You see, having a list is the difference between running a business and being a salesperson. It is far easier to do repeat business than it is to generate new customers. Without a list, you have to constantly work to find new customers. This means your cost of acquiring a sale is much higher than it would be if those customers were sitting there waiting for your offers.

If you are serious about building a sustainable income through having your own business, there are no two ways around it. You must build a mailing list. But how?

There are two main tools you will need. These are what I consider to be important tools of the trade. Now don’t get all worried that you do not have the skills for this. These tools I am about to show you are drop dead simple.

  1. Lead Capture Page – also known as a landing page or squeeze page. This is a web page created for the sole purpose of capturing the name and email of your existing or potential customers. On this page you will have an opt-in form that is provided by your autoresponder service. The easiest tool for creating this is Quick Squeeze Pages. Honestly, this one is a no-brainer. It requires no HTML or coding knowledge. It is a WYSIWYG squeeze page creator that you only need to be able to type to use. I have tried a few of these editors and this one is by far the best. It is very reasonably priced and is a one time fee, no monthly or recurring fees. http://www.superteammarketing.com/quicksqueezepages
  2. Autoresponder – You need an autoresponder to process your opt-in form, store your mailing list and provide an automated way to communicate with your customers. For me, Aweber is the only autoresponder I trust 100% to get my messages to my customers. They provide me with a nicely designed opt-in form to place on my lead capture page, then allow me to automate every process of staying in touch and providing superior service to my customers. They are the most trusted autoresponder service on the internet today. If you ask almost any IM business, chances are this is the service they use. The cost is very reasonable. Usually about $19/month which is far less than it would cost you to acquire new customers using any other means. http://www.superteammarketing.com/aweber

So there you have it, are you a business owner or just a salesperson? The ability to capture leads is just two clicks away. It is the ONE thing that is holding you back if you are not currently building a list of customers. Do not fool yourself into thinking you have a business without it.
